In Russia, a new protection system for amphibious combat vehicles has been devised in the form of a sliding mask. The development is intended to conceal equipment while crossing water obstacles and simultaneously protect the upper projection from drone attacks.
The structure consists of a frame made of hemispherical arches, attached to the side of the vehicle by a hinged mechanism. In the working position, the arches form a dome over the hull, over which a camouflage covering is stretched, matched to the color of the water surface.
Such a design distorts the vehicle's outline and reduces its visual detectability when observed from the air. At the same time, the dome-shaped mask creates an additional barrier for FPV drones and shaped-charge munitions, forcing them to detonate at a distance from the armor.
The mask folds into the transport position and is installed by the crew. The solution increases the survivability of amphibious vehicles without seriously altering the vehicle's design.
