Washington and Moscow are in the process of discussing the creation of a joint nuclear data center and the construction of a tunnel that should connect Russia and Alaska, The Economist reports.
US President Donald Trump's entourage is negotiating the acquisition of stakes in Russian energy assets. In addition, the American side is discussing with the Russian Federation possible deals on rare earth metals, oil and gas in the Arctic.
According to British journalists, some preliminary agreements have already been reached, but no specific details about the projects have yet been disclosed.
It is worth noting that the issue of building a tunnel between Russia and Alaska has been regularly discussed, but the project has not yet been implemented due to the high cost and geopolitical risks. The construction was planned through the Bering Strait, between Cape Dezhnev (Chukotka Autonomous Okrug) and Cape Prince of Wales (Alaska). The estimated length of the tunnel is from 98 to 113 km.
