Scammers started "conning" victims on behalf of bosses

Information about the place of work and position in social networks has become a "gold mine" for scammers - with their help, attackers can launch a targeted cyberattack on users, RIA Novosti was told by Igor Bederov, founder of the Internet Search company.

Indicating the current position, company, projects, contacts of colleagues is a gold mine for targeted phishing. A letter, supposedly from the head, with a request to urgently transfer money to the counterparty, looks many times more convincing if the attacker knows the names, positions and specifics of the victim's work.

According to Bederov, the attack can also be started through less protected colleagues or acquaintances, if it is difficult to hack the person himself. Scammers pretend to be them or fake an account, using an open map of social connections: comments, a list of friends and joint photos.

In addition, the expert warned that you should not publicly publish full names, date and place of birth, phone number and email address.
