Scheduled Maintenance Begins on Unit 2 of Smolensk NPP

The work will restore more than 150 cells of technological channels and modernize turbine equipment

Scheduled work has begun on power unit No. 2 at the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant. The repair is being carried out as part of the company's annual schedule approved by Rosenergoatom Concern. This was reported by the station's press service on February 14.

The overhaul includes in-reactor inspection and measures to extend the life of the equipment. It is planned to restore the operability of more than 150 cells of technological channels out of 1,661 and replace 25 channels of the control and protection system.

In addition, the power unit will undergo modernization of reactor and turbine equipment - electric drives, valves and a generator rotor will be replaced. More than 850 specialists are involved in the repair work.

The Smolensk NPP remains the largest electricity producer in the region, accounting for 88% of the generation. The station is located 150 km from Smolensk, 180 km from Bryansk and 350 km from Moscow.
