Nuclear scientists have connected Unit 1 of the Smolensk NPP to the grid after completing the third stage of work to manage the resource characteristics of the reactor core. This was reported by the press service of Rostec.
The essence of the technology lies in restoring the shape of graphite columns. In addition, the turbine shop carried out a major overhaul of the low-pressure cylinders and performed technical control of the working blades of the turbogenerator.
In the electrical shop (where the mechanical energy of the turbogenerator's rotation is converted into electrical energy), the DC panels were modernized and two generators were repaired. Microprocessor DC cabinets were also installed. The "smart" equipment automatically shows the direction of insulation reduction in the networks. All work was completed 19 days ahead of schedule.
The Smolensk NPP is located in the suburb of Desnogorsk. It was put into operation in 1982. The station includes three power units with uranium-graphite channel reactors, each of which has an electrical capacity of 1000 MW. IAEA experts highly appreciate the safety level of the NPP.
