Foreign social networks fined 77 million rubles for failure of self-moderation

Since the introduction of the automated system for detecting illegal content, Roskomnadzor has restricted access to or removed prohibited information from more than 4.71 million websites.

Monitoring was carried out across more than 30 categories of prohibited information. Among the resources blocked or cleared of illegal content, a significant share consists of materials related to child pornography (641 thousand cases), drug propaganda (858 thousand), and information prohibited for distribution among children in relation to sexual relationships (255 thousand).

The agency noted that for failure to comply with the requirements for self-moderation systems, owners of foreign social platforms were brought to administrative liability for a total amount of 77 million rubles. Additional fines totaling 48 million rubles were imposed for failure to comply with the regulator's orders. Work to restrict access to illegal content is carried out both on the basis of court decisions and acts of authorized bodies, and within the framework of preventive interaction with the Russian representative offices of international social networks.
