A new certified participant has appeared on the Russian market for aircraft maintenance and repair (MRO). A structure affiliated with the airline Smartavia — Smart Technic — has received a certificate of compliance issued jointly by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya). This officially confirmed the company’s right to perform line maintenance of aircraft at two key sites: Arkhangelsk Airport and the Moscow aviation hub of Sheremetyevo.
According to the certification received, Smart Technic specialists are authorized to perform operational (line) maintenance on Boeing 737NG family aircraft equipped with CFM56 engines — one of the most widespread powerplants in commercial aviation. The work includes pre-flight and post-flight inspections, troubleshooting, component replacement, and scheduled checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements and regulatory authorities.
Of particular interest is the fact that, amid the reduced presence of Western service centers on the Russian market, a domestic operator is emerging that specializes specifically in CFM56 engines. This creates additional opportunities to support a fleet of more than 300 Boeing 737NG family aircraft operated by Russian airlines.
The company’s management reported plans for a phased expansion of technical competencies: in the near term, it intends to obtain approvals for servicing additional types of aircraft and powerplants, as well as to move on to performing heavy maintenance checks.
Recall that in December 2025, Aeroflot completed the repair of three engines of the CFM56 family.
