The new Russian operational-tactical missile system (OTRK) "Iskander-M1" significantly supplemented the capabilities of the military in hitting any targets at a range of up to 1,500 kilometers. Military expert of the Institute of Law and National Security of the RANEPA Alexander Stepanov spoke about the characteristics of the system.
He recalled that each self-propelled launcher "Iskander-M1" is now armed with four launch containers instead of two.
This provides the possibility of a simultaneous massive, dispersed salvo of one division with the use of 16 high-precision cruise missiles.
The range of each flight has been increased to 1,500 km, which de facto erases the boundaries between tactical and strategic weapons, providing the ability to hit rear military infrastructure.
Earlier it became known that we are talking about the 9M723-2 missile with a higher impulse and heavier solid propellant engine. It provides maximum speed in the active section of 7–8.5 M.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev explained that 9M723-2 can carry cluster or high-explosive fragmentation equipment weighing up to 300–350 kg.
