Prototype of Future Thermonuclear Reactor Begins Creation at Rosatom

Tests of Wire for Tokamak Electromagnetic System Conducted for the First Time

The D.V. Efremov Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus (NIIEFA JSC, part of Rosatom State Corporation) has taken a key step towards creating a prototype of a future thermonuclear reactor. This was reported by the press service of the design and engineering center.

For the first time in Russia, a full-size superconducting wire for the electromagnetic system (EMS) of a TRT tokamak with reactor technologies has been manufactured and successfully tested.

The next step is to move to the active phase of construction of the installation.

Organizations of the Rosatom State Corporation and the Russian Academy of Sciences are participating in the project. These include NIIEFA JSC, the ITER project center, NIKIET JSC, and others.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a new development by Russian physicists will increase the safety of thermonuclear reactors.
