The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is considering allocating additional funding to the Russian Railways holding (JSC "Russian Railways") for the purchase of locomotives and electric trains. This was announced by the head of the department, Anton Alikhanov.
According to him, 15 billion rubles were allocated in 2025 to ensure the acquisition of the minimum required amount of rolling stock.

The Russian Railways website states that the fleet currently includes 166,895 freight cars of all types, 17,898 passenger cars for long-distance trains, and 12,371 suburban train cars.
