The icebreaker "Moskva" has begun carrying out icebreaking operations in Nagayeva Bay, the water area of the Magadan Commercial Sea Port. This was reported by a representative of the port administration, noting that the vessel will be used to clear approach channels and ensure the escort of ships through the ice cover.
In the current winter season, the formation of fast ice in Nagayeva Bay was delayed due to abnormally warm weather: in December, the region repeatedly came under the influence of warm cyclones. Nevertheless, by the time the icebreaker arrived, the ice cover had already formed, which required the involvement of specialized equipment.
It is expected that "Moskva" will perform its functions in the region until May, in accordance with the traditional winter navigation schedule.
The Magadan Commercial Sea Port remains a key hub in northeastern Russia and provides year-round navigation. In winter, safe shipping in its water area and on the approaches to it is ensured by icebreaker support, without which stable logistics are impossible in Arctic climate conditions.
