Upgraded Russian T-80BVM and T-72B3M tanks, as well as the main T-90M "Proryv," will become a transitional stage toward promising armored vehicles. This was stated by Rostec.
The state corporation noted that promising tanks will retain the key classic features of these vehicles — a tracked chassis, advanced armor protection, and a medium- or large-caliber gun in a rotating turret.
At present, Rostec produces several types of modern tanks whose protection and onboard systems were promptly refined taking combat experience into account. These vehicles can be regarded as a transitional stage toward promising armored vehicles.
Rostec added that even today the tank remains one of the most resilient combat vehicles on the battlefield, capable of delivering effective direct fire while under the impact of various means of destruction, including FPV drones.
For now, engineers continue to modernize the existing T-90M "Proryv" fleet. Footage of the combat vehicle's bizarre protection in the form of a dandelion has appeared online.
In September 2025, T-90M tanks also received active protection against drones — "Arena-M". The "Proryvs" will remain in service at least until 2038.
