Applications in Telegram with allegedly free books began to be used to distribute viruses

Russians warned about the danger of downloading unknown APK files

Attackers have begun using mini-applications in Telegram to distribute virus-infected files. This was reported by the Department for the Organization of Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Russians are offered to launch a Telegram bot with allegedly free e-books. After receiving a download request, the bot issues an APK file for devices running on the Android operating system (OS).

If the user downloads the file, the fraudsters gain access to confidential data. Experts from the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned that you should not install unverified APK files on your gadgets. It is better to use legal services for distributing e-books, the department added.
