Manufacturer of Pantsir-M SAM and Krasnopol Missiles Turns to Whaling

Shipunov Design Bureau Patents a Hunting Tool for Killing Whales

The Instrument Design Bureau named after Academician A. G. Shipunov has unexpectedly entered a new industry. The company has patented a hunting tool for killing whales.

The invention abstract states that the main goal is to improve safety and reliability when using a hunting tool. The patent describes a multi-stage mechanical trigger that eliminates accidental triggering and ensures stable operation in the harsh conditions of whaling.

The innovative design includes a barrel, a trigger unit with a spring-loaded handle, a rod, and a pusher interacting through a groove and a Z-shaped sear.

The key innovation is the L-shaped pusher body with a pin, protecting the mechanism from contamination and premature failure. The firing pin was proposed to be made in the form of a hollow cylinder with a striker, ring, and limiter, which allows precise control of the triggering moment.

The Shipunov Design Bureau emphasized that the spring-loaded handle simultaneously functions as a safety, and the tool itself has two application options - with and without a rod, depending on the hunting conditions.

It should be noted that the patent itself does not mean the start of mass production - it only fixes the technical solution.

The Shipunov Design Bureau was founded in 1927. The company produces high-precision Pantsir-M anti-aircraft missile systems, Kornet anti-tank missile systems, Krasnopol artillery systems, Hermes-A missile systems, Berezhok fire control systems, and Bakhcha-U.
