Severstal brings the pellet production complex to the finish line

The company is completing the installation of equipment and is moving on to commissioning before the complex is launched in 2026

At the construction site of the new iron ore pellet production complex in Cherepovets, the installation of key technological equipment continues — conveyor systems, pelletizers, mills and energy facilities. Severstal has confirmed that the launch of the facility is scheduled for the second half of 2026 and is proceeding strictly in accordance with the approved schedule.

At the current stage, cold commissioning of sintering machines, one of the central elements of the complex, has already begun.

According to the CEO of the company, Alexander Shevelev, the implementation of the project is directly related to the achievement of strategic environmental goals. In particular, the commissioning of the new production facility will fully provide the blast furnaces of the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant with its own pellets and decommission the outdated agglomeration machines, whose contribution to environmental pollution is recognized as significant.

Shevelev noted that by switching to a cleaner pig iron production technology, the company will be able to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2 million tons, and the amount of pollutants by 96 thousand tons.

As a reminder, «Severstal» is a vertically integrated mining and metallurgical company and one of the largest steel producers in Russia. The main production asset is the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant, whose annual capacity is about 12 million tons of steel.
