Russia has cast the first container body for the nuclear industry weighing over 115 tons. The unique product was created at the Ural Steel plant in Novotroitsk.
This is the first heavy casting in the history of the Russian Federation made of high-strength ductile iron, intended for facilities of the highest level of responsibility. The product meets the requirements for nuclear equipment.
The container was cast by order of JSC "Techsnabexport". In the future, it will be used for transportation and long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.
Previously, Russia purchased such containers abroad. Now the entire cycle, from metallurgy to engineering calculations, is implemented within the country. Specialists from "OKBM Afrikantov" and TsNIITMASH participated in the project, and the casting has already passed confirmation of compliance with strict technical conditions.
