Kaspersky Lab has received documents that allow it to carry out cybersecurity audits of ship computerized systems and networks. The corresponding certificate was issued by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).
The press service of Kaspersky Lab explained that modern ships are equipped with digital systems on which the operation of engines, rudders, cartography and navigation depends. However, cybercriminals can attack them, for example, by spoofing GPS signals to knock the ship off course, or by using ransomware. Malicious software can disable ship systems.
Maritime vessels are characterized by difficulties with software updates, and intermittent internet access during voyages.
According to her, this is a new direction for the company. Obtaining a certificate from RS confirms that Kaspersky Lab specialists have the necessary competencies and can ensure the protection of ships.
