As part of the preparation for the launch of the world's first power unit with a fast neutron reactor BREST-OD-300, Rosatom specialists conducted successful comprehensive tests of a full-scale simulator. The testing took place at the All-Russian Research Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Operation (VNIIAES).
The BREST-OD-300 power unit is being built on the territory of the Siberian Chemical Combine (SCC) and will become a key element of the pilot project of a closed nuclear fuel cycle. Previously, an analytical simulator developed by the same institute was put into operation at SCC.
According to Yegor Klevtsov, Head of the Personnel Training Department of the United Directorate of the SCC Operational Complex, the full-scale simulator represents the next and extremely important stage in the training of operators. According to him, in accordance with the requirements of federal norms and rules in the field of atomic energy use, personnel training with the mandatory use of such a simulator must be fully completed before the physical start-up of the reactor.
