Like a "Hurricane": Siberia's Largest Provider Comments on Powerful Hack Attack on Its Networks

Peak load of cyberattack on Orion Telecom reached 297 Gbps

Telecommunications company Orion Telecom has commented on the latest hacker attack on its infrastructure, noting that it was comparable to a "hurricane" in terms of power.

According to the company, the peak load was 297 Gbps and 82 Mpps — indicators that characterize the attack's bandwidth and the speed of delivery of packets needed to overload network devices.

Orion Telecom believes that the attacks on June 12 and December 11–12 are related. The first attack, carried out in June 2025, paralyzed the provider for 20 days. The international hacker group BO Team claimed responsibility for the hack. After that, the company significantly strengthened its cybersecurity measures, gaining experience in protecting the perimeter and preparing for external threats.

Orion Telecom is one of the largest providers beyond the Urals. The company already has experience in repelling complex DDoS attacks.
