The Oreshnik hypersonic missile was first used in November 2024. By the end of this year, a mobile ground-based missile system with the missile of the same name will be put on combat duty. This statement was made by President Vladimir Putin, speaking at an expanded meeting of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The head of state noted that work on modernizing the Russian Armed Forces needs to be continued, including within the framework of the State Armaments Program for 2027–2036.
New trends in the tactics of warfare and in rapidly developing military technologies should be taken into account as much as possible.
The President named the key areas of the state program:
- air defense and missile defense systems
- control and electronic warfare (EW) equipment
- unmanned systems (air, sea, ground)
According to him, the priority for the Russian authorities is to improve strategic nuclear forces. It is nuclear weapons that will play the main role in deterring a potential enemy in the future, Putin concluded.
