Hyundai Registered Genesis and Hyundai Matrix Brands in Russia

The company has obtained the right to produce cars and components under these brands

South Korean automaker Hyundai has registered two trademarks in Russia — Genesis and Hyundai Matrix. The corresponding applications, filed back in September 2024, have been approved by Rospatent. This gives the company the right to produce and sell cars, as well as components under these brands in Russia.

Hyundai's interests in the country are represented by Hyundai Motor CIS LLC. According to Rusprofile, in 2024, the company's revenue amounted to 6.5 billion rubles, and net profit reached 2.7 billion rubles — an indicator that demonstrates the continued stability of the business even with a limited presence in the market.

Genesis is Hyundai's premium brand, specializing in the production of business-class cars and executive sedans, while Matrix is a well-known compact van model that was produced in the 2000s. The registration of these trademarks may indicate a possible return of the Korean brand to segments where European and Chinese brands previously dominated.

At the end of 2023, Hyundai Motor sold its plant in St. Petersburg to Art-Finance, the parent structure for AGR LLC. The deal was completed in early 2024, but the manufacturer retained the right to buy the company back within two years. This condition gives Hyundai flexibility and the ability to quickly restore local production under favorable market conditions.
