The second power unit of the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant has successfully completed scheduled maintenance with modernization elements — seven days ahead of the schedule set by the annual plan. During the work, specialists carried out a set of measures: replaced the reactor boundary valves, serviced the shaft line of the turbine generator and the low-pressure cylinder, reloaded nuclear fuel, and also modernized the software and hardware complex of the in-reactor control system.
Alexey Portnov, Head of the Station Repair Management Department, said that about 1,500 employees were involved in the repair work.
Thanks to a well-established planning system and the use of lean manufacturing tools, it was possible not only to reduce the time frame, but also to fully maintain the high quality of all the work performed. With the commissioning of the second power unit, Balakovo NPP has completed the 2025 repair campaign.
