Yandex Unveils Its First Electric Car UMO 5 for Taxis

The model is a localized version of the Aion Y Plus, with a power of 204 hp and a range of up to 430 km

Yandex is preparing to release the first electric car under its brand for taxi services. The car will be named UMO 5 - the corresponding trademark has already been registered with Rospatent. The electric car will be a localized version of the Chinese GAC Aion Y Plus, which is not officially sold in Russia.

UMO 5 is offered at a price of 2.4 million rubles, taking into account state support (subsidies of 925,000 rubles). Leasing a car will cost from 69,000 rubles per month for four years without a down payment. The electric car is equipped with front-wheel drive, develops 204 hp, and its range is 300-430 km depending on the season. The LFP battery with a capacity of 63 kWh charges from 20 to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.

According to the Yandex Taxi classification, UMO 5 belongs to the "comfort+" class. The equipment includes LED optics, multimedia with a 14.6-inch screen, six airbags, all-round cameras and a full set of heating. The service interval is 15,000 km, the warranty is four years or 150,000 km.

Operating an electric car in a taxi promises significant savings. According to Yandex's calculations, UMO 5 will cost 255,000 rubles per year less than a similar car with an internal combustion engine: 176,400 rubles can be saved on fuel, and another 88,500 rubles on maintenance.

Negotiations on the local assembly of UMO 5 are underway with several factories, and production could start as early as 2026. In China, the Aion Y Plus has been produced since 2021, and is supplied to Russia through parallel imports. The appearance of a Russian analogue will allow Yandex to offer electric cars directly to partners in taxi fleets, bypassing official import restrictions.
