Akkuyu NPP Prepared to Supply Electricity to Turkish Power System

Specialists have completed the preparation of equipment for electricity transmission

At the Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction site, equipment has been prepared to supply electricity from the first power unit to the unified power system of Turkey. This refers to a complete switchgear with a gas-tight metal enclosure (GIS).

The components of the GIS (busbars and switches) are protected by a gas-tight shell and use electrical gas, which has high electrical insulation properties and increased fire safety. After the completion of installation and commissioning, the system will be able to transmit electricity generated at the Akkuyu NPP units to the country's general power system.

The supply of voltage to the GIS equipment is a milestone event in the formation of the Akkuyu NPP power distribution infrastructure.
Sergey Butskikh, General Director of JSC "Akkuyu Nuclear"

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey. The project is being implemented by the Russian state corporation Rosatom. The station includes four power units with VVER-type reactors of generation 3+, each of which will have a capacity of 1,200 MW.

Earlier www1.ru reported that work on the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP was completed by 95%.
