The State Scientific Research and Design Institute of Rare Metal Industry (JSC Giredmet, part of Rosatom) and the Mendeleev Valley Foundation signed an agreement to create a cluster for deep processing of non-ferrous, rare and rare earth metals (REM) in the Angara-Yenisei region (includes the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Irkutsk Region, the Republics of Tyva and Khakassia). This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.
Specialists from the design institute and the foundation will develop and implement technologies for the production and separation of rare and rare earth metals (RM and REM). In addition, they will apply their competencies to create new materials.
Our cooperation will strengthen the country's technological sovereignty in critical areas - from lithium-ion batteries and permanent magnets to ultra-pure substances for electronics.
Russia is among the leading countries in terms of REM reserves. Their volume is estimated at approximately 28-29 million tons. The main deposits are located in the Murmansk, Irkutsk regions, and in the Far East.
One of the main problems of the sector is the lack of its own technologies for the extraction and processing of REM. In November 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the authorities to develop and approve a "roadmap" for the production of REM. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been appointed as responsible.
