In Zhukovsky, fine-tuning tests of the automatic flight control system (AFCS) on board the domestic regional aircraft Superjet 100 (tail number 97001), equipped with fully Russian avionics and a power plant, have begun.
To date, the crew has already performed 12 automatic landings as part of the approved test program. All approaches were carried out in strict accordance with the safety and accuracy requirements necessary for the subsequent presentation of the system to Rosaviation experts.
The development of the AFCS is a joint project of the Kaluga Research Institute of Radio Technology Concern (KRET, part of Rostec) and PJSC Yakovlev. The new control algorithms provide director piloting during takeoff and fully autonomous control of the aircraft at all stages of flight, including approach and landing.
To confirm compliance with international certification standards, Yakovlev specialists previously conducted a large-scale statistical simulation of landings according to category IIIA. Using the virtual model "Aircraft–AFCS", more than 3 million landings were simulated, taking into account random deviations in the initial conditions and the effects of turbulence. The tests confirmed that the system meets all aviation regulations for automatic landings in conditions of limited visibility.
