Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers have arrived at the Olenya airbase on the Kola Peninsula, according to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.
The long-range missile carriers arrived from the Far East and landed beyond the Arctic Circle on Monday, November 24. It should be noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense has not officially announced the redeployment of the Tu-22M3s.
It should also be noted that the distance from the Olenya airbase to the Norwegian border is about 154–200 km. The facility is located approximately 92 km south of Murmansk and is located near the cities of Olenegorsk and Vysoky. "Olenya" was built in the mid-1950s in a mountainous area at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level.
During the construction of the airfield, bulldozers cut off the tops of the hills, as they were butting against the ends of the runway, and the hardest sections were blown up. The length of the runway is 3500 m, with reinforced concrete pavement. «Первый технический» рассказывал подробно об авиабазе.
The main armament of the Tu-22M3 is the Kh-22 missiles, the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, and aerial bombs.
