The definition of a "digital twin" of an aircraft has appeared for the first time in the aviation environment - a technology that combines design, testing, certification, production and operation, which is enriched during the product life cycle. Ezhen Guriev, Head of Design Department of PJSC "Yakovlev" (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of the Rostec State Corporation), spoke at the V Congress of Young Scientists in Sirius about the achievements already made in this direction.
He noted that so far we can only talk about developments, even large Western aircraft manufacturers do not have such technology.
It is necessary to separate marketing and reality. If you look at marketing, then we have digital twins everywhere, but in fact - digital prototypes. There are cool mathematical models, including ANSYS, but this is still not a digital twin. This technology is only described, neither Boeing nor Airbus have it, but steps are being taken in this direction. There is already a good foundation among colleagues on the Superjet, and there are strong competencies in describing aircraft systems in a digital environment for the MC-21.
"Pervyi Tekhnicheskiy" has already written that engineers of the United Engine Corporation (UEC) are actively using virtual testing technology, creating digital twins of aircraft engines.
In particular, the Moscow enterprise "Salut" developed a digital analogue of the AI-222-25 engine, and the St. Petersburg "ODK-Klimov" - a digital model of the TV7-117ST-01.
