Russia is preparing to transition to mass production of small nuclear power plants. President Vladimir Putin announced this on November 19 at the "Journey to the World of Artificial Intelligence" (AI Journey) conference, organized by Sber.
We plan to transition to mass production, as I have already said, of small and land-based nuclear power plants.
The head of state also announced plans to build 38 new nuclear facilities over the next 20 years. Their total installed capacity will be comparable to the country's current operating nuclear generation.
The new power units and small nuclear power plants are planned to be located mainly in the regions of the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East - where the need for stable and autonomous generation is highest.
