A new grain terminal, the largest on the Caspian Sea, is planned to be built in Dagestan by the end of 2028. According to the press service of the Makhachkala Sea Trade Port, the annual grain transshipment will amount to 1.5 million tons.
By the end of 2028, the necessary infrastructure will be created, including a terminal designed for the simultaneous storage of 100,000 tons of grain and an annual transshipment of 1.5 million tons. It is also planned to modernize the container terminal using the port's own funds.
In addition, a four-lane road is currently under construction from the seaport to the federal highways Astrakhan — Makhachkala and Rostov — Baku at the expense of federal and republican budgets.
Makhachkala Sea Trade Port is the only ice-free and deepest port in Russia on the Caspian Sea.
Facts about the grain terminal in Dagestan:
- The project is being implemented with the participation of the Chinese holding Famsun Group, which will supply high-tech equipment for the new terminal.
- The existing grain terminal of the port transships approximately 0.5 million tons per year.

- Grain transshipment is growing in the port of Makhachkala: in September 2025, it reached 54,000 tons, with a total of 151,000 tons transshipped in the third quarter.
- The management of the Makhachkala port has been transferred to the company "North — South", which fully owns the port's shares.
