Temporary Ban on Cryptocurrency Mining Introduced in Two Russian Regions

Restrictions will be in effect during the winter period

A ban on cryptocurrency mining is being reintroduced in Buryatia and the Transbaikal Territory. It will be in effect from November 15, 2025, to March 15, 2026.

The restrictions will affect 19 municipal districts of Buryatia, as well as the urban district of Ulan-Ude. In the Transbaikal Territory, 14 municipal districts and 14 districts, including the city of Chita and the village of Aginskoye, fall under the ban on cryptocurrency mining.

From January 1, 2025, to March 15, 2031, a general ban on mining is in effect in ten regions of Russia. In Buryatia and the Transbaikal Territory, only seasonal restrictions have been introduced. The authorities' decision is related to the projected shortage of electricity during peak loads.

At the end of October, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced the start of work on creating a register of miners. To date, 1364 mining companies have already been registered in it.
