Igor Mishin, a specialist from the National Technological Initiative (NTI) Avtonet, spoke about the advantages of electric vehicles. According to him, the main advantage of electric vehicles is the presence of two types of braking systems. This advantage allows owners to save on maintenance.
Electric cars are equipped with classic hydraulic and regenerative brakes, which work together. This mixed system provides smooth braking and maximum energy recovery.
Regenerative braking is most often used in urban environments, where movement is often interrupted by acceleration and braking. However, it is less effective at high speeds, which necessitates the use of hydraulic brakes for these cases. The hybrid braking system works similarly.
Regenerative braking is a high-tech function necessary to improve the energy efficiency of electric vehicles and increase their range. If the battery charge level exceeds 90%, the system automatically limits regeneration to prevent overcharging. Regeneration reduces the load on the friction braking system, which, in turn, increases the service life of parts and reduces the cost of maintenance.
According to the expert, brake pads and discs in electric vehicles wear out less often, which significantly extends their service life compared to cars with internal combustion engines.
