Russia Forecasts Growth in Zirconium Oxynitrate Market to 2027

A small-scale production site for zirconium oxynitrate powder has been created at the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (ChMP). The inorganic compound is one of the main components of catalysts used in oil refining to improve the quality and environmental friendliness of motor fuel, according to the Rosatom press service.

ChMP obtains zirconium oxynitrate without the use of chloride media. The plant uses an extraction cascade (a series of interconnected devices for separating substances) during the deep purification of zirconium compounds from hafnium impurities.

This provides a competitive advantage, as it does not disrupt the catalysis process and eliminates equipment corrosion.

Experts predict growth in the Russian zirconium oxynitrate market. By 2027, its volume will increase by 3.5 times and exceed 70 tons.

About Zirconium Compounds

Zirconium oxynitrate is crystals with a density of about 1.85 g/cm³, which decompose at temperatures above 100°C. Zirconium compounds are characterized by thermal stability and chemical inertness. They are used in the creation of materials with "memory" of shape, solid electrolytes for fuel cells, nanomaterials, in the aerospace industry and nuclear energy.
