Cars under the Hongqi and Avatr brands are planning to establish production in Russia in 2026. This information was announced at the CarXL-2025 automobile forum in Moscow.
The localization of the Avatr brand in Russia was first revealed thanks to Natalia Mityaeva from Panauto. It was reported that the Changan representative office intends to launch the production of several models, including hybrids of the Deepal sub-brand, at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. There is no official confirmation of this yet. Currently, only the Avatr 11 electric crossover is available in Russia, which will be joined by the Avatr 12 fastback.
In the media, it was reported that the head of the Russian office of Hongqi, Ivan Savelyev, announced the company's intention to launch the assembly of cars of this brand. However, later the Hongqi press service stated that Savelyev's words were taken out of context and the top manager was talking about general market trends.
At the beginning of the year, it was also noted that in order to start production of Hongqi cars at one of the Russian plants, it is necessary to reach a certain level of sales of Chinese premium models, although specific figures were not disclosed. Currently, about 11 thousand premium segment cars have been sold in the first nine months of the year, which is 15% less compared to the same period last year.
The specific Hongqi models that will be localized in Russia remain unknown. Crossovers HS3, HS5 and HS7, liftback H6, sedans H5 and H9, minivan HQ9, as well as the electric SUV E-HS9 are represented in our country.
In addition, this month the certification of the new luxury sedan L1 began, which could become an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series for Russian buyers.
Updated. The head of the Russian division of the Hongqi brand, Ivan Savelyev, stated that without localization, any automobile brand becomes uncompetitive against the background of the increase in the recycling fee, so Hongqi needs such a solution, and it is a matter of time. At the same time, the exact timing of localization has not been announced.
