CSTO countries prepared measures to protect nuclear power plants

Military equipment and weapons will not be allowed to be placed near them, except in cases of defense

The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the CSTO PA on Defense and Security Issues, State Duma deputy Anatoly Vyborny said that a legal norm on the protection of critical infrastructure facilities, in particular dams, weirs and nuclear power plants from destruction, will appear in the legislation of the CSTO countries.

We propose to establish prevention against the placement of weapons and military equipment in the immediate vicinity of these facilities, unless it is directly related to their defense.
Anatoly Vyborny

It should be reminded that several nuclear power plants are located in the CSTO states, including facilities in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Their safety is ensured both at the legislative and operational-tactical levels.

Regular joint exercises are held to eliminate emergency situations and prevent radiation and nuclear incidents, including at the Belarusian nuclear power plant. These activities include joint planning of actions by management bodies, as well as forces and services to ensure nuclear and radiation safety of the population.
