First Time in Russia: Unique Industrial Production of Germanium Wafers Launched in Krasnoyarsk

Germanium wafers have a higher efficiency compared to silicon ones — about 30%

The Schwabe Holding (part of Rostec Group) has launched the first industrial production of polished germanium wafers in Russia in Krasnoyarsk. They are used for the manufacture of solar panels in spacecraft and are used in renewable energy technology.

Polished germanium wafers, on the basis of which photoelectric converters for solar batteries are made, are in high demand among manufacturers of space technology. Solar cells on germanium substrates are actively used in on-board power sources, as they can ensure their lifespan of 15 years or more.

The efficiency of germanium solar cells reaches about 30% compared to silicon counterparts. These platinum also have increased radiation resistance and mechanical strength.

The Industrial Development Fund helped us organize a new production site and launch a unique production of high-tech and demanded products from germanium with characteristics at the level of world leaders for Russia. The industrial technological process was developed at our enterprise.
