AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov, during the ceremonial launch of production of the new Lada Iskra model in St. Petersburg (the site of the former Nissan plant), stated that the company is not participating in lobbying for an increase in the recycling fee for cars with a capacity of over 160 horsepower. He was asked the question in the context of a discussion of new rates that may come into force from November 1, 2025.
This is definitely not our story
He explained that there is not a single car in the AvtoVAZ model range whose power exceeds 160 horsepower. On average, the engine power of the company's cars is about 100 horsepower, which is 25% lower than the specified threshold.
The new methodology for calculating the recycling fee involves linking rates not to engine displacement, but to its power, with the introduction of a progressive scale. Preferential rates will only apply to individuals for cars with a capacity of less than 160 hp. If the initiative is approved, then from November 1, the recycling fee for cars with a capacity of more than 160 hp may increase by hundreds of thousands of rubles.
