Students from the Law Institute of Tomsk State University (TSU) have created the Telegram bot SafePoint, which combines information for actions in emergency situations, including shelter maps, emergency service contacts, and first aid instructions. The project took first place at the All-Russian LegalTech Hackathon in Kaliningrad.
The SafePoint chatbot was created as part of the hackathon "LegalTech: Prevention of Extremism and Terrorism among Young People," held at the IKBFU with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and legal companies. The Red Flag team, including TSU students Bogdan Yaroslavtsev, Yana Novikova, Vera Tumanova, and representatives from the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia and Ural State Law University, developed the bot on the Botman.one platform. It provides data on the location of shelters, hospitals, police stations, as well as algorithms for actions during an air raid, terrorist attacks, and for providing psychological support. The information is based on data from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and verified medical sources.
The project was highly appreciated for its practical significance. So far, the bot only covers the Kursk region, but the team plans to expand its geography. The development was carried out in a short time, which limited the scale of the maps, explained Bogdan Yaroslavtsev.
This is not TSU's first victory at the LegalTech hackathon: in 2022, their team created the BadBookBot chatbot, which also took first place. The programming and data analysis skills acquired in the "Digital Lawyer" program at TSU helped the students in the development.
