The new ice-class patrol ship "Ivan Papanin" of Project 23550 has joined the Russian Navy. The press service of the Northern Fleet has for the first time demonstrated unique footage of the vessel's tests.
Complex technical solutions were implemented during its construction, some of which have no analogues in world shipbuilding.
"Ivan Papanin" combines the properties of a patrol ship, a tugboat and an icebreaker, is capable of monitoring and protecting water resources in the Arctic latitudes, towing and escorting detained vessels to the port, participating in rescue operations and escorting supply vessels.
The ship is armed with an artillery installation and a portable anti-aircraft missile system, and is equipped with hydrometeorological and radar stations. The possibility of permanent basing of a shipborne helicopter is provided.
Project 23550 has no analogues in terms of technical characteristics, the Russian Navy emphasized.
