Motor vehicles (MVs) and cargo left in storage by Russian customs authorities will be transferred to federal ownership if their owners do not pick them up within a month after the inspection is completed. This is reported by journalists.
They drew attention to the corresponding changes in Articles 261 and 323 of the law "On Customs Regulation in the Russian Federation." The new amendments will not affect motor vehicles and cargo that have been seized or arrested in accordance with legislation on administrative offenses or criminal procedure legislation.
Previously, cars and goods were stored at customs until they were returned to the owner after inspection, but now the storage period will be reduced to the moment of "transfer to federal ownership." This will happen if the owner does not assert their rights within the time limits established by law.
In addition, the deadline for publishing information about unclaimed vehicles and goods on the official website of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia will be reduced from 60 to 30 days. The term "vehicles" will be added to Article 323 of the law on customs regulation to cover them in the confiscation process.
