Eight Nuts in Two Minutes: New Fastening Tightening Equipment Installed at KAMAZ Conveyor

The system implementation eliminates the human factor at a critical stage of chassis assembly

New automatic fastening tightening systems have been put into operation at the main assembly line of PJSC KAMAZ in Naberezhnye Chelny. The equipment is installed in the area where the torque rod is connected to the vehicle frame.

The new nutrunners provide a fixed tightening torque of 800 N·m. Previously, this operation was performed manually by mechanics using a torque wrench. The process is now fully automated: the worker scans the barcode on the checklist, after which the system tightens eight nuts. At the end of the operation, a check is printed with data including the vehicle's VIN code, operation time, and nominal and actual tightening torque values.

According to Sergey Shiryaev, Head of the Assembly Efficiency Analysis Department Bureau, in the first months after launch, the quality control inspectors carried out random checks of the tightening quality with a torque wrench. The new equipment is characterized by power, smooth running, and lack of vibration, which reduces the physical load on employees.

The nutrunner is indeed reliable - slow-speed, but powerful. Another advantage is its smooth running and lack of vibration. Workers no longer need to make efforts either to tighten the nuts or to bring the system to the chassis moving along the conveyor.

The modernization is aimed at improving the accuracy, speed, and efficiency of the production process. The system implementation eliminates the human factor at a critical stage of chassis assembly.
