Россияне все чаще оставляют чаевые c помощью приложений

Experts attribute this to rising incomes and the shift to cashless payments

Russians have started leaving tips more often through online services. According to the "Plavno" service, in the first half of 2025, users rewarded restaurant and cafe workers 3.5 million times, which is 46.7% more than the year before.

This is confirmed by other companies as well, although they provide data for a longer period—from January to July of this year. For example, T-Pay saw a 14% increase in tips, while the "Check Index" analytical center of the "Platform OFD" company saw a 24% increase.

Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of Infoline-Analytics, explains this trend by the increase in the population's income and the massive transition to cashless payments. Online services offer several options for paying tips depending on the amount of the check, which makes the process convenient for customers.

Elena Perepelitsa, CEO of the RestCon consulting company, adds that customers can now choose between a specific amount or a percentage of the check. A representative of the Shokoladnitsa chain confirms that the ability to transfer tips through the SBP (Faster Payments System) system has influenced the increase in their amount. Thus, in the cafes of this chain, in the first half of 2025, the amount of tips increased by 20–25% compared to the same period last year, and the number of transactions increased by 10%.
