Faster and Easier: Sber Launches Face Payment for Teenagers

More than 6.5 million Russians aged 14 to 17 will be able to use the service

This week, Sber will launch biometric payment for all Russians over 14 years old. More than 6.5 million teenagers aged 14 to 17 will be able to use the service, according to Kirill Tsarev, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank.

Research has shown that more than half of users of payment services under the age of 18 use contactless methods daily, including payment stickers for phones. Now, teenagers have another payment method that does not require a card or smartphone. This saves time and simplifies purchases, which is important for young people. Teenagers no longer need to worry about forgotten passwords or lost cards. Unique facial biometrics reduces the risk of fraud.

To connect, you need to open the "SberBank Online" application, find the "Face Payment" service by searching, then click the "Connect" button, select a card, and create a security code. Next, consent to biometric data submission on "Gosuslugi" and obtain parental consent—the request comes as a push notification. The parent confirms it with one click if a child account has been created in their profile on "Gosuslugi". Submit biometrics and pay in stores, cafes, restaurants, etc.

Clients of not only Sber, but also other banks can pay for purchases using biometrics. To do this, simply use Sber ID.

Today, the service is actively used by people aged 25 to 44 (56%), clients aged 45 to 64 (31%), as well as users aged 22–24 and over 65 (5% each).
