Росатом запускает производство титановых медицинских имплантатов по полному циклу

Pins, plates, and instruments will be fully domestic starting in 2026

Rosatom is working on creating a complete technological chain for the production of implants and surgical instruments made of titanium. This was announced by Andrey Andrianov, General Director of "Rosatom MetalTech".

Since 2024, the company has been implementing a project to produce domestic medical devices — titanium plates, pins, and components. Production begins with the extraction of titanium in the form of sponge, which is then processed into titanium rods, from which implants are made. The full production cycle is scheduled to launch next year, which will allow Russia to become independent from imports.

Vadim Dubrov, Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics at Moscow State University, noted that innovations in the field of traumatology and orthopedics are impossible without titanium-molybdenum and titanium-niobium alloys, which are not yet available in the country. He emphasized that the task of the Russian industry is to create domestic radiolucent implants, which will become the next step in innovation.

Rosatom's project aims at self-sufficient production of high-tech medical devices made of titanium, which coincides with the trend of import substitution and the development of the domestic medical industry.
