Biometrics for purchasing long-distance train tickets introduced in Russia from September 1

Passengers will be able to use biometrics if the carrier has the necessary equipment

From September 1, Russia introduces the possibility of using biometrics when buying tickets and boarding long-distance trains. The new practice will be applied if the railway carrier has the necessary equipment.

The Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA) and the Unified Biometric System (EBS) can be used to verify identity. The rules also apply to high-speed trains. Traditional methods of purchasing tickets and boarding the train will continue to be valid.

Earlier it became known that biometrics can be confirmed for access to EBS services through a bank, which will save passengers from offline registration. A similar option is already available to users whose data is in the "Gosuslugi biometrics" application.
