The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported a new scheme by fraudsters who send out false summonses for questioning by phone or SMS. The department emphasized that an official summons is only possible by subpoena.
Fraudsters pose as police officers and inform citizens of the need to appear for questioning as suspects. In case of refusal, they threaten with a «forced escort» or imprisonment. The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends ending such conversations and demanding an official subpoena. To verify the information, you can call the duty station of the police department indicated in the message.
Earlier, www1.ru reported on another method of deception — sending files in vcf format, which automatically save fake contacts to the address book.
