Engels Spark Plugs Plant Conducted an Experiment on Labeling its Products with the "Honest Sign" System

The problem with the illegal trade of spark plugs hinders domestic manufacturers

The «Engels Spark Plugs» plant (Meteor brand) conducted an experiment on labeling its products. As part of the test, a batch of 600 spark plugs was labeled using the «Honest Sign» system. All barcodes were successfully validated.

The company's CEO, Alexander Kovalchuk, noted that there is a problem with the illegal trade of spark plugs in Russia. This refers to the legal import of high-quality spark plugs that continue to enter the market.

This situation creates serious difficulties for domestic manufacturers. The plant in Engels produces 25 million spark plugs per year, which is only a quarter or a third of the total market volume (90 million spark plugs).

Currently, official deliveries of Western brands such as Bosch, NGK, and Denso to Russia are absent. Companies do not label their products at the factory. Their products are imported through third countries.

There are two options for solving the labeling problem: label the products in a third country through which the import is carried out. Or, affix the labeling at the customs warehouse before customs clearance.

Both options require significant effort: it is necessary to remove the spark plugs from the containers, sort them, label them, and then reassemble them. This may lead to a decrease in the number of people willing to engage in this process, a reduction in market supply, and, as a result, an increase in prices. As a result, only Chinese spark plugs and fakes with a pasted «Sign» will remain on the market, experts suggest.
