Roskomnadzor has restricted voice calls in foreign messengers to combat criminal activity, the agency's press service reported. The decision was made based on data from law enforcement agencies and numerous appeals from citizens.
The press service of Roskomnadzor clarified that the measures only apply to voice calls in Telegram and WhatsApp. Other functions of the messengers are not yet restricted. The agency noted that these services have become the main channels for fraud, extortion, and involvement of Russians in subversive or terrorist activities.
The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation reported that access to voice functions will be restored after the messengers comply with the requirements of Russian legislation.
