The repair of the large anti-submarine ship (BPC) "Admiral Chabanenko" of Project 1155.1 will not be completed in 2025, as originally planned. There is a possibility that the BPC will repeat the fate of the cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov," which was sent for preservation.
"Chabanenko" was put into repair in 2014 for a large-scale modernization of the ship, including equipping it with modern missile systems. However, it turned out that the modernization was not carried out in 2025, the time of the ship's exit for testing is currently unknown.
The ship is being repaired at the 35th Ship Repair Plant, which was also responsible for work on the aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov." According to experts, problems with the repair of a number of ships arise from the fact that the country lacks repair capacity. In addition, he did not rule out that the conservation of "Admiral Kuznetsov" would allow directing funds to complete the repair of "Admiral Chabanenko."
Ilya Kramnik, a specialist at the Center for Strategic Planning Studies of the IMEMO RAS, clarified that the 35th Ship Repair Plant "is not in the best condition in terms of management and personnel, as well as in terms of production capabilities."
Plus, there is an objective reason: spending on a number of fleet programs is being cut. Both underfunding and the not-so-good condition of the plant lead to the fact that the repair was first delayed to indecent terms, and now the transfer of the ship to the fleet is postponed to the right. Let's hope that it will still be transferred. But all this may end badly.
