On July 28, the operation to evacuate the oxidizer tank from the carrier rocket was completed in the Vilyuy district of Yakutia. Rescuers, ecologists and representatives of Roscosmos worked in the remote taiga, where they arrived only by helicopter.
To remove the fragment, it was necessary to prepare a landing site. Rescuers descended by the method of unparachuted landing, cut down trees and cleared a place for the helicopter. Ecologists checked the radiation level - it was within normal limits.
The tank was sawn into pieces and delivered to Vilyuysk, where it was placed in a special container. Now it remains to remove the toroidal tank 15 meters long. The operation will take several days, after which the fragments will be sent to the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
